Mike Hilscher is a FOX40 employee and a Diablo 3 enthusiast. He had to convince his wife to allow him to buy the game and the Real Money Auction House was his best pretext. Having his wife’s approval by promising to make some extra money, Mike got the game. The entire idea of having an official market to trade virtual items for money seemed very appealing. These markets already existed but they were owned by third party individuals.
This time around, Mike got to play with Blizzard’s version of a real money marketplace. The existing black market kept Blizz out of the loop while others collected all the money. With the Real Money Auction House, the game developer will get some additional cash infusion to help with the server maintenance. In consequence, the RMAH was launched in early June in both US and Europe.
Mike saw the opportunity and started trading his items hoping that others might find them useful and pay him a few dollars in return.
Within nine days Mike managed to earn $250 by selling some of his items. This pocket money was more than welcome as he will use it for his car payment. However, he did not reach his initial goal.
On the other hand, Mike confessed that he would have still played the game even if there was no Real Money Auction House.
