Blizzard Builds – Zaven Haroutunian, Associate Level Designer and his Wizard

Zaven Haroutunian is an Associate Level Designer at Blizzard and as a Diablo 3 player, he discussed a bit about his favorite class, the Wizard. Right now, he is the proud owner of a level 60 character grinding on Inferno.
The level designer loves unusual builds. Right now he is sitting on an unconventional setup with no signature spells. He decided to avoid using low damage abilities and went right for the heavy hitters. Arcane Orb with the Tap the Source rune is his main damaging spell with Venom Hydra to back him up. Teleport and Mirror image are also present in his selection of skills but the runes used are mainly focused on knockback. He uses the Calamity rune and respectively, Mirror Mimics.

His selection of skills is not ideal as Zaven says himself. The build uses a lot of Arcane Power, forcing him to use Energy Shield with the Energy Tap rune for a small boost. This skill was paired up with the Galvanizing ward passive as a means to boost the effectiveness of the shield even further. Next, he went for the Evocation skill to reduce the cooldown of Teleport and Mirror Image. Both these skills have significant value when it comes to survivability and Zaven went for a passive to give them an additional boost.
Last but not least, the level designer went for the Illusionist passive. This adds an additional boost to the two skills just mentioned.
Zaven confesses that he is still working on the gear for this build. Right now there are some gaps to be covered but with a little gear optimization, his build will work even better. The developer seems to love to experiment with his Wizard but so far, this particular skill setup seems to be very entertaining. Most probably, it will keep him busy for a while until he decides to try something new.
