Builds – Barbarian Solo Inferno Act 3 – Whirlwind Wrath

Barbarian Solo Inferno Act 3 - Whirlwind Wrath

Level Required - 60

Build thanks to Mighty Draco

Even with the patch 1.0.3 nerf of the Inferno difficulty, the endgame content is still difficult for melee classes.

The Barbarian has only a 20% damage reduction of incoming damage which is not that much.

There is a lot of monsters and Rare monster pack affixes that are almost impossible to kill without a strong build and some life on hit heavy gear.

Lets take a look at a build we call “Whirlwind Wrath“, which relies on three key factors to make it work for Act 3 Inferno: endless Wrath of the Berserker, endless Whirlwind and Tornados from Sprint.

Let’s see the full setup of the skills for this build:

Left Mouse Button – Frenzy with the Smite rune

Right Mouse Button – Whirlwind with the Hurricane rune

Action Key 1 – War Cry with the Impunity rune

Action Key 2 – Sprint with the Run Like the Wind rune

Action Key 3 – Wrath Of The Berserker with the Thrive on Chaos rune

Action Key 4 – Overpower with the Crushing Avance rune

Passive Skill 1: Nerves of Steel

Passive Skill 2: Weapons Master

Passive Skill 3: Superstition

The Mechanics Of The Build

It is obvious that Fury regen is important in order to have Wrath of the Berserker active all the time.

Attack speed does play an important role in this setup and even with the recent IAS nerf, it still has a beneficial effect.

In this setup, it will determine how often the Tornados tick for damage. The Tornados are attack speed dependent.

To engage enemies, Warcry can be a great opener. It generates 30 Fury right from the beginning and with a few Frenzy hits, it should get to the max in less than two seconds. Let us not forget that the Barbarian generates Fury when he is hit also. As the Fury goes over 50%, it is time to use Wrath of the Berserker.

Using Whirlwind with Wrath, generates sufficient Fury to keep everything going. There should be enough of it regenerated per second to keep Wrath of the Berserker always up due to the Thrive of Chaos rune.

Insanity is not an option for this build. It will just make the skill less effective. Also, Sprint should be always on cooldown. Having Tornados everywhere will end the fight faster and sometimes just by kiting the mobs.

The survivability of the build is gear dependent. There are no crowd control abilities except for the Smite rune stun but Frenzy will be rarely used.

To make this build work at all, life on hit is essential. There is no other option. Life leech is nerfed on Inferno by 80%, making Life on Hit the only way to do it. The combination of the Impunity rune to increase resistances and the Superstition passive, damage mitigation should be sufficient for difficult packs as life regen should be more than enough to heal the incoming hits.

A shield should be carried around in the inventory for some impossible packs or when dealing with multiple groups.

Looking at the weapon choice, spears, maces and axes would be preferred. With the recent nerf of IAS in patch 1.0.3, a spear is mandatory in a dual wield setup. The IAS on the gear is reduced by 50% and the bonus from Weapons Master is more than welcome.
