Builds – Demon Hunter Solo Inferno Kiter – Bola Build

Level Requirement: 57
Build thanks to Diablofans Zakarumite.
Demon Hunters have to kite in order to survive and there are very few builds that can say otherwise.
The build we call “Bola Build” will be focusing on solo play. It has a lot of crowd control and it relies on a decent follower build to assist.
Kiting will be a big part of the gameplay but it gets easy when targets are slowed down. It is a difficult build but with some practice it can work excellent in Inferno Act 1.
Here is a quick look at the skill layout:
…
Left Mouse Button – Bola Shot with the Imminent Death rune
Right Mouse Button – Impale with the Overpenetration rune
…
Action Key 1 – Smoke Screen with the Displacement rune
Action Key 2 – Preparation with the Focused Mind rune
Action Key 3 – Caltrops with the Hooked Spikes rune
Action Key 4 – Companion with the Bat Companion rune
…
Passive Skill 1: Archery
Passive Skill 2: Sharpshooter
Passive Skill 3: Steady Aim
The Mechanics of the Build:
Bola Shot will be the main damage dealer against normal mobs. It cost only 3 Hatred and it is extremely effective except for the two second delay but the extra damage makes up for it. For more critical situations, Impale should be used, especially when dealing with Champion and Rare mobs. It can deal a lot of damage in a straight line. It is great for narrow zones and when combined with the slow from Caltrops and a bit of kiting, Impale can damage the entire pack for 250% weapon damage.
Like said before, kiting will be the main gameplay style for this build. We have the Caltrops to slow enemies and keep a safe distance between them and the Demon Hunter. Since we will be dealing damage to enemies at a distance, it makes sense to add Steady Aim to the mix. Also, the time spend running helps to build up critical hit chance with the Sharpshooter skill. Additionally, because of the Bola Shot delay, around 5 to 6 hits can be dealt and all of them can crit due to the Sharpshooter mechanic.
Since this will be a solo build, we need to look at the follower as well. The Templar is the only viable choice. We will want him to have Intervene, Intimidate, Charge and Inspire. Our follower will need to be focused on keeping the monsters away from the Demon Hunter. Intervene is great to have around when things go wrong.
In terms of gear, at least 35k HP will be desirable since it would not be very lucrative to die from one hit. It is a glass cannon build focused on kiting but when a monster does get close enough to land a damaging strike, the Demon Hunter must have enough HP to survive and run away. Also resistances will help on this matter to mitigate some of the damage. Ideally, a minimum of 300 resist to all would be recommended. Life on Hit will also be great. Around 500 to 1000 should be enough since the build is focusing on avoiding any kind of damage so this value is sufficient.
