Monk Solo Inferno Build - Fists of Regeneration Monk

Level Required - 55

Build thanks to youtube’s Petrosha87

A build we call “Fists of Regeneration“. Seems to be one of the best builds that can solo Diablo. Such a powerful build also works fantastically to clear the Acts and advance in Inferno if you’re not already in Act IV.

Let us have a quick look at the skill and rune setup of the build.

The Mechanics Of The Build

The build focuses on two main elements: fast attacks and high HP regeneration.

We will need two one hand weapons with a minimum of 1.4 attacks per second. Both of them should have Life Leech. Without this stat, the build might not work that great.

Additionally, we will want a belt with some Life Leech as well. The more we have the better. Next, we will have to find some items with increased attack speed.

Rings are the easiest to find. With the proper gear, the life regen is so high that there is no need for potions. In fact it is possible to kill Diablo in Inferno in under 10 minutes with this build. See video below.

Our main attack is Fists of Thunder. With fast attack weapons the Monk should hit so fast that it is difficult to follow his moves. This will cause HP gain and build up quickly.

For difficult situations, we have Breath of Heaven and Serenity.

When below 20% HP it is better to use Serenity to get a short break and gain some HP back without taking more damage. Spirit should be almost always at maximum. The fast attack speed causes it to regenerate incredibly fast.

This makes Sweeping Wind usable almost all the time. Also, the debuff from Resolve should be always up on the main target reducing their attack power. We also get some DPS bonus from Mantra of Conviction. Combined, we have a 48% damage increase.

The only defensive passive that we will use is One With Everything.

Edit – It does work with Physical Resistance.  Thank you Deis

  1. Excellent build, good DPS with outstanding survivability. Best monk build I’ve played as of to date (June 2012).

    • @Donkay: I just beat Diablo Inferno with a very similar build. The only thing differently I use is Seven-Sided Strike over sweeping wind.

      • @Frozen: Nice! I myself just beat Butcher last night in Inferno (hard to find much more time with a toddler without increasing wife aggro!) The AS nerf doesn’t seem to be as bad as I initially thought it would be. Will test out SSS to see how I like that better.

      • @Frozen: I started using SSS and I have to tell you that I really do like it better than Sweeping Wind.

First off, it cost less spirit (50 compared to 75) and with the nerf to AS this makes a difference. Also, with Sweeping Wind you have to worry about keeping it up with an attack otherwise you have to recast and spend another 75 spirit which was really annoying.

Second, it does seem to do more concentrated damage to a target. Especially vs Elites and Bosses. I haven’t crunched the numbers (and don’t plan to.)

I’ve now changed this build somewhat from what was originally posted on this thread: https://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#akgXYT!YVU!aaYbcY
-Breath of Heaven w/Blazing Wrath instead of Breath of Heaven w/Infused with Light
-Seven-Sided Strike w/Sustained Attack instead of Sweeping Wind w/Blade Storm
-Passive: Beacon of Ytar instead of Resolve

Basically Fists of Thunder is still the main attack/Spirit generator. Sustained Attack rune on SSS with Beacon of Ytar drops the cooldown to 20 secs (I’ve yet to test if this actually stacks, I guess I should sit there with a timer……. anyone knows if this actually stacks?) So now my mechanics consists of using Fists of Thunder and then popping in order Breath of Heaven>Blinding Flash>SSS, generate some more Spirit and when SSS cooldown is up repeat.

Even if Beacon of Ytar doesn’t stack with Sustained Attack rune, I’ll opt to keep this passive skill as being able to pop Breath of Heaven, Blinding Flash and Serenity more often is better than the reduced damage dealt by mobs (not sure if this applies to physical attacks only) for 2.5 secs from the Resolve passive skill.

Thanks ‘Frozen’ for the recommendation for SSS.

  2. Hey, nice build, though I think you have gotten Resolve wrong. It doesn’t make your target more receptive to damage, instead it makes yourself less receptive to damage.

  3. Excellent build. My only critique being that One With Everything does in fact apply to physical resistance.

  4. Physical resist is considered elemental when dealing with one with everything. My whole gear set uses that resistance. Also have you considered life on hit instead of life leech(LoH)? I’ve seen many builds utilize LoH. It would be interesting to see how life leech scales with damage.

  5. @beersofwar everyone uses LoH including myself because life leech is nerfed by 80% in inferno. aka that 2.8% dmg converted is really almost nothing.

  6. Started my conversion to this build last night. Can anyone tell me how this build fare against a mob of elites/champions?

  7. i started using this, i find that having more dodge from guardian’s path had better results than damage reduction.

  8. do you think that build work after nerf AS from 1.0.3 patch ?

    • @eNki: 50% AS nerf is a pretty big nerf imo but the monsters in Inferno have been nerfed as well so we’ll have to see how playable this build is now. Might have to use a shield full time …………….

  9. To me… if you looking for damage that steals life on hit, would you not be looking to have as many skills doing much dmg? Crippling Wave w/Breaking Wave, Sweeping Wind w/Blade Storm, Conviction w/Submission (% raises based on AS). Then say… mystical ally?

But I prefer Dashing Strike for cheap escapes. Plus with crippling Wave you are reducing their AS. Or go Concussion, remove resolve and go with Gaurdians Path. You would have a great upper hand on large groups. Then you have holy dmg from Conviction w/Submission. Im at 45% AS and it does 29% DMG. No resistances against Holy Damage. Why I would also suggest Holy Dmg on Weapons if you get +dmg.

I have seen people use these with Life Leach. Its not big amounts of heal. Its tons of little ones. Awesome on groups, sucks for elites (for me, not others). But I see where this one could take the upper hand with elites as well. I have had a hard time justifying 3 secs of high dmg on a 15 sec cooldown. Dashing Strike or Mystical Earth Ally for me. Also some misunderstand Dashing Strike. Yeah, not great for OMG DMG!!

But IS an awesome and ‘cheap’ utility that can save your butt. Dash with Quicksilver, quite nice 10s. Especially on elites that drop ground clutter beneath you when you are right next to them. Click it and you just switch to the opposite side. Just keep zig zagging.

Or with the Butcher when he jumps preparing for his big smash, click dash you go behind him and he misses you. He pretty much misses 90% of his hits because I keep switching sides.

  10. how much dps have the daggers now ?

  11. Still the BEST build so far, you can solo anywhere before the patch and after the patch you just need more life on hit and IAS! btw your music rocks! take only what you need from him! . . . Excellent guide.

    +1

  12. can u post your stat after patch 1.0.3 (A) to compare ?

    • @eNki: Not sure if you’re asking me about my stats or not but if you are, all gear being the same when I just hit level 60 before this patch my dps was 12k, and post patch it dropped to 10k so roughly 17% decrease due to AS nerf. I had approximately +40% to AS from gear pre-patch so cut that in half it’s +20% AS. The bigger initial concern I had was the lower LoH due to less attacks per second as this build was focused more on that rather than dps.

After getting to play some more this weekend, here are my thoughts:
-LoH and DPS nerfs are significant but this build is still playable and by far not as OP as before so Inferno is/should be more challenging (or frustrating).

-vs Butcher; I downed him dual wielding on the and was only in trouble a couple of times when my hp was less than 50% but very solo-able.

-In groups, dual wielding isn’t very viable as the mobs hit a lot harder (even though I think the patch notes said they were nerfed) than in solo so I’m using a shield for now. Might be my gear isn’t good enough for dual wielding in Inferno groups so I’ll have to see. I have mostly level 60 gears now except my helm, amulet, and rings being the lowest at level 54. My resist is at 676 with shield and 628 dual wielding.
-Looking to craft better gems than the +190hp per hit ones I got on both weapons (both are over 650 dps), maybe that will make dual wielding much more viable in groups.

  13. i have 1400 dex 970 vit 4500 armor 15k dps dual wielding 494 all ress 789 LOH and i cant with champions on act 3 and 4
i wanna know your stat to compare with mine to know hown much i need to increase

  14. and 2.21 de AS

  15. I tested the cooldown of SSS with Sustained Attack rune and Beacon of Ytar passive and it does stack. The SSS cooldown is just below 20 seconds …. yes I used a stop-watch.

  16. After another week of playing with SSS, I’ve since ditched it and went back to Sweeping Wind. SSS just didn’t do enough damage against mobs, it’s fine against single targets but an AOE attack is much needed. Just have to manage the Spirit pool better with SW.

  17. @Donkay I think it should be mentioned that SSS can also function as damage avoidance, since the monk is invincible for the duration of the strikes. While it may not be able to replace SW as sustained AoE damage, it could definitely have merit in a build like this I think.

  18. the thing is i cant find attack speed anywhere near what you have on some of your armor… even on the rmah or the normal ah

    • @balmung123:

it was before the 1.0.3 patch that decreased attack speed by 50%

  19. hey guys guys how can i use all those 3 skill that came from defensive?like how do i hotkey it?

    • @fred: Use Elective Mode:

Elective mode allows the players to map any skill they want, to any hotkey they want, without restrictions. This means that players can map more than one Primary skill to their hotkeys at a time.

To activate elective mode, press the Esc key, then choose Options > Gameplay, then toggle on Elective mode.

  20. How did the recent 1.04 patch affect this build? I am still testing seeingwhat builds I like, as I am a new level 60 (6 Paragon) Monk myself who is not sure what specs to utilize.
    Thanks!
    Mike A!
