Builds – Witch Doctor Inferno Tank – Rain Doctor

Witch Doctor Inferno Tank - Rain Doctor

Level Requirement: 48

Build thanks to Heleon.

Some build work for AoE damage and others for single target encounters. It is a bit difficult to find the middle ground and get an universal build that works in all situations and especially during solo play.

Lets have a look at a Witch Doctor tanking build we call “Rain Doctor“. Fortunately, Witch Doctors this build manages to become a one-size-fits-all combination of skills.

There is no need to change anything based on situational factors, also making the Nephalem Stacks less of a headache.

Let’s have a quick look at the choice in active and passive skills:

Left Mouse Button – Acid Cloud with the Acid Rain rune

Right Mouse Button – Grasp of the Dead with the Groping Eels rune

Action Key 1 – Spirit Walk with the Jaunt rune

Action Key 2 – Horrify with the Frightening Aspect rune

Action Key 3 – Big Bad Voodoo with the Rain Dance rune

Action Key 4 – Gargantuan with the Big Stinger rune

Passive Skill 1: Jungle Fortitude

Passive Skill 2: Vision Quest

Passive Skill 3: Spirit Vessel

The Mechanics Of The Build:

Simply put, Acid Cloud should be regarded as the spammable ability. It will be the main source of damage and with a decent attack speed, it can deal with almost any type of enemy without much difficulties. Attack speeds will influence the frequency with which the ticks will occur.

To sweeten the pot, a weapon with chance to freeze makes this build even more overpowered. With enough attack speed and multiple stacks of poison, the monsters might end up being frozen permanently in certain situations.

However, we must not forget that in Inferno there are diminishing returns for all CC abilities. The freeze duration will be lowered significantly and monsters might escape from the grasp of the Acid Cloud.

In some situations kiting might be required but with sufficient life on hit, the Witch Doctor can become a pseudo-tank. If there is enough life on hit and high attack speed, the ticks from the Acid Cloud dots will keep the Witch Doctor at full health at all times. Some players managed to get healed for 40 to 60k per second but this amount is gear dependent.

On the other hand, things can go wrong mainly due to the Inferno reduction of player CC abilities. It is possible to get killed with one hit but this is where Spirit Vessel comes to play.

The only problem of the build will be the mana regen. However, if all skills are kept on cooldown, Vision Quest should keep on regenerating mana 3 times as fast. Still this is not enough and it will need an additional source of regeneration that can be filled by the Rain Dance rune of Big Bad Voodoo.

In all cases, mana should be managed with care even if the regen seems high enough. It might cause an unnecessary death to have no mana and let the monsters escape from the freeze.
