Wizard Act 12 Solo Inferno Tank - Twister Tank

Blizzard made the Wizard a true glass cannon but that doesn’t mean that a tanking build is not possible. In fact, the following skill setup can make the character almost immune to the Butcher charges in Inferno.

It will sacrifice on DPS but will create a survivability Wizard tank possible. A build we call “Twister Tank

Let’s start with a quick look at the skill selection:

Left Mouse Button – Hydra with the Venom Hydra rune

Right Mouse Button – Energy Twister with the Wicked Wind rune

Action Key 1 – Frost Nova with the Cold Snap rune

Action Key 2 – Diamond Skin with the Crystal Shell rune

Action Key 3 – Explosive Blast with the Chain Reaction rune

Action Key 4 – Energy Armor with the Force Armor rune

The Mechanics Of The Build:

The first thing about this build that draws attention is the selection of passive abilities. Blur gives the Wizard the missing 20% damage reduction that all melee classes have. Other than that, we have only skills that reduce the cooldown of abilities. Evocation applies a flat 15% while Critical Mass cuts down 1 second from all cooldowns whenever the character deals critical hits.

This selection leads to a natural gear setup that requires a lot of critical hit chance. The Wizard starts to become a more effective tank as they get more critical hits and the minimum desired value should be around 30% chance.

In combat, Energy Twister should be used almost in all situations and all the time. The speed rate at which it deals damage makes it great in combination with Critical Mass. With a decent critical hit chance, the cooldowns of all other spells will be reset in less than 2 seconds.

This will enable the spamming of Diamond Skin and Frost Nova. Explosive Blast is more of an optional ability since it can consume a lot of Arcane Power. Let us not forget that the regeneration of Arcane Power is not enhanced in anyway and sometimes Explosive Blast will not be usable even if the cooldown is reset.

The gear selection is not very demanding in terms of gold cost. Mediocre items can be used without major problems. It is important to have some resistances and around 30k HP. Diamond Skin will be able to mitigate most of the damage and the heavy hits will be handled by Energy Armor. It would be desired to have at least 300 to all resist. Armor is not extremely important. The build has been proven to work with less than 3000 armor and 300 resist to all. It will not be enough for Act 3 but it works excellent in the first two acts of the game.

Act 3+ would need a gear upgrade.
