Diablo 3 Hardcore PVP Arena. Petition!

To increase the end game playability of Diablo 3, concerned (and bored) players have begun a petition asking Blizzard to implement player versus player arena on Hardcore mode, meaning any character that dies during the arena season will be gone forever. They would also like to see other features, such as tournaments, broadcasting, and streaming of these and other events. Currently, Blizzard’s plans for the game’s player versus player does not include a Hardcore mode.

In the petition, the players describe their vision of the Hardcore player versus player, wherein participants sign up for the season by selecting “Hardcore Arena Mode” during character creation. They are permitted to grind and farm until enough players have reached level 60, and the season begins officially. When this happens, no other players can join and item farming and purchasing will no longer be allowed.

The matches will be four way single elimination fights, and anyone whose character dies loses it forever. Everything that was worn by the slain character becomes the property of the victor. The season will be concluded at a tournament to be held at Blizzcon, where the top four players will be pitted against each other in an arena full of hazards such as walls of fire, or even Diablo himself. The winner will be rewarded with a special weapon, and allowed to return to fight again in the next season.

The players believe that this will revolutionize the way esports are played, with a higher amount of emotional investment at stake. If nothing else, all the drama it could potentially involve should be able to promote Diablo as a franchise. If this petition pushes through and does get implemented by Blizzard, it could provide sadistic game moderators an interesting means of dealing with game violators: instead of giving them a perma ban, just gather them all up, convert their characters to Hardcore, and have them duke it out against each other in an arena, Hunger Games style.
