Diablo 3 Public Games Still Not Safe?

Public Diablo 3 Games not safe

Players continue to report that their accounts are being compromised by playing public games. Hack victims state that they have been in a public game with certain nefarious individuals, or find their names on their friend lists.

There is a rather lengthy list that includes the names of these individuals, who some players suspect to be gold farmers and that everyone should watch out for them.

The players are referring to this phenomenon as session spoofing. When a player joins a public game, the hackers add them as friend possibly by using an automated script. Minutes later, all of their items disappear, which probably was probably transferred to the hacker somehow and got sold to an NPC vendor for gold.

Blizzard is still insisting that playing in public games is safe, as they have still found no evidence of this so-called session spoofing. Moreover, they have conducted studies and concluded that session spoofing is technologically impossible in the first place, meaning they have not found a way to replicate this phenomenon themselves.

They have yet to find a case of an account being compromised due to joining public games.

Again, Blizzard maintains that the best way for players to protect their accounts is by linking it to an authenticator. However, they also state that even this is not a fool proof way of securing an account – players are asked to make sure that they use the Battle.net or Battle.net Mobile authenticators, and not the Dial-in Authenticator which is not supported for Diablo 3.

Blizzard is refusing to refer to this widespread incident as hacking, then what is it called? What exactly is happening? Until Blizzard gives an explanation on how or why the players’ items are disappearing, there are those who will not risk playing in a public game in the interim.

Confined to a forum thread, a Blizzard staff representative responded to the article we recently ran about the dangers of joining a public game in Diablo III. According to Blizzard, public games are safe. Session spoofing is “technologically impossible” and authenticators are the best bet to safety.  Full here.
