Diablo 3 Public Test Realm Coming Soon And PvP Arenas In The Works

Diablo 3 will get a Public Test Realm in the near future. The news initially started as a rumor amongst the players that noticed the button for the PTR in their game launcher. At first, the option was greyed out but now, players are able to click on it and it will take them to the landing page of Diablo3.com. This button was introduced shortly after Diablo 3 Patch 1.0.4.

All other Blizzard games have their own PTR servers for the players to test and provide feedback of the upcoming changes before they hit the live servers. This is one of the reasons why both Starcraft II and World of Warcraft are considered to be extremely well balanced games. Diablo 3 will follow the same path and give the players the opportunity to test the feasibility of the upcoming changes. This also means that Blizzard is planning to add the PvP arenas in the near future and a lot of testing will be required.

We’re going full steam ahead on the PvP patch, which will also include a number of game changes unrelated to PvP, and we look forward to sharing more about that as we get closer to opening up a PTR, where you’ll be able to test out our changes — and enjoy mercilessly slaughtering one another in the PvP arena.

PvP arenas will also need to fix one significant problem. Critical hit damage enables players to deal ridiculous amounts of damage. There are videos on YouTube that show Barbarians dealing 1.000.000 points of damage with one critical hit. In PvP, these numbers are very unrealistic and they will ruin the fun of the entire system. Blizzard will have to find a way to balance classes and gear so that the matches will not end within seconds due to ridiculous amounts of DPS.

Adding a new stat similar to the World of Warcraft resilience could fix the problem. This will call for special PvP gear that can reduce the critical hit chance and damage of opponents to rule out to some degree the overpowered PvE gear. However, it is too early to predict how the developers will deal with such issues but without a doubt, the PTR forums will be filled with complaints about huge DPS of some players.

Right now, we have to wait for Diablo 3 Patch 1.0.5 which was recently revealed. It is safe to assume that Patch 1.1 will arrive soon after. Meanwhile we will have to wait for the Diablo 3 PTR to play some PvP

  1. I disagree with the high dps problem. Other classes have ways to negate even 1,000,000 dps such as the wizard’s frozen skin and the monks serenity. All of the classes available abilities should make it fun and interesting if they ever make it a reality. The real problem is that PvP still is not available…
