Reddit Reveals A Diablo 3 Unidentified Items Exploit

Reddit Reveals A Diablo 3 Unidentified Items ExploitIn a recent post on Reddit, a new exploit has been revealed by one of their users. The post gives great details on how this can be done. So far there hasn’t been a fix for this as it is not a top priority glitch from a certain perspective.

From one point of view, being able to see the properties of an item which is just about to be identified is not much of a deal. However, players seem to have developed a habit in selling them unidentified. The trading works like a lottery. All the items are sold for a standard price and in the end it is a matter of luck. If the seller and the buyer do not know the properties of the item then it could be considered like a genuine lottery.

The newly found exploit enables the seller to sport which items are worth something and which ones are junk. This abusive approach enables him to sell only the useless items, thinking the buyer into thinking that he has a fair chance of getting something good. In other words, this is a form of scamming, facilitated by an exploit.

In the Blizzard forums, the issue has been brought to attention by a user posting a few details of how this bug works. His post immediately got a blue response asking him not to publish such hacking and exploiting details. However, the Reddit post revealed exactly how the abusive players do it. It seems that they can read the encrypted code of the unidentified item. In that code they can identify certain properties of the item. He revealed only how a player can spot how many affixes an item has.

Right now it is unsafe to buy unidentified items. As long as the items are not sold, the exploit is harmless. It only becomes an abusive practice if the items are sold to other players.
