RMAH is Not a Good Full Time Income Source. Some Bonus Cash? Sure!

Online games have always banned real money trading of their in-game items, forcing players to buy and sell these virtual goods in black markets – much akin to illegal substances. In a controversial move, Blizzard has legalized this activity in Diablo 3, which enables them to earn a cut of the profits.
Since the release of the real money auction house, prices for items seem to be ridiculously sky high, with the useful once ranging from between $30 to $100.
Many of these items are also being sold at the absurd maximum price of $250. Despite prior speculation that the real money auction house could potentially ruin the game experience, this seems to have become a non-issue because it seems that the only players who will be able to utilize this feature are those who are willing to spend a large amount of money on a video game.
The only way these items would sell at their current prices is when player versus player gets implemented, where hardcore players are known to spend thousands of dollars in games where having exceptional gear is an important aspect of climbing the ranks.
Another reason why the real money auction house cannot be a viable source of income are the farmers. There are scores of them, and Blizzard may only have little incentive to have them banned since they will also be taking a cut of their profits.
These experts know the most efficient way of obtaining in-game items, and with clever planning they could undercut the current prices and still be able to earn a lot of money.
The average player will still be able to earn some money from the real money auction house, but not enough for a living.

The average Joe player, even if you’re playing Diablo 3 a significant amount and have found some decent gear, the chances are that you can compete with these legal and illegal pros is miniscule. You probably could make some money with enough work and game knowledge, but it’s going to be next to impossible for many attempting to make it an actual job.
What the future holds for the RMAH and Diablo 3, I’m not sure, but if this ends up being a success, expect every MMO to follow Blizzard’s lead. Full here
