Wizard Build Solo Inferno Patch 1.0.4 – Critical Mass

Required Level: 60
Build thanks to BatCaveGaming
The Diablo 3 Wizard has proved to be one of the most popular classes out there. Prior to patch 1.0.4, build variations were a bit limited. Now that some skills were buffed, we will see some new Diablo 3 Wizard Inferno Builds becoming more and more popular. Today’s Wizard Inferno build is an adaptation of the old Critical Mass setup. Since the old one was nerfed a bit and caused characters to become Arcane Power Starved, some modifications were required. The build still works the same way as it used to. Just like the old Diablo 3 Wizard Critical Mass build, this setup will be focusing on stunlocking enemies. It is a fun build that requires the Wizard to attack enemies from melee range.
Before we get into the details, let’s look at what changed in the build:
…
Left Mouse Button – Energy Twister with Storm Chaser rune
Right Mouse Button – Teleport with Wormhole rune
…
Action Key 1 – Diamond Skin with the Crystal Shell rune
Action Key 2 – Frost Nova with the Deep Freeze rune
Action Key 3 – Explosive Blast with the Chain Reaction rune
Action Key 4 – Energy Armor with the Prismatic Armor rune
…
Passive Skill 1: Blur
Passive Skill 2: Critical Mass
Passive Skill 3: Glass Cannon

The Mechanics Of The Build:
The core idea behind this Wizard build is to keep monsters frozen. It will not work as well when dealing with bosses and small mob packs but it is great for farming. Critical Mass is the shining star for this setup. Each time the Wizard lands a critical strike, cooldowns are reduced by one second. When there are a lot of monsters around, it is possible to just spam Frost Nova and keep them frozen solid. This means that Arcane Power regen will cause problems. To cope with AP starvation, we will need to use some pieces of gear that grant some Arcane Power when landing critical strikes. Getting something like 10 AP per critical hit should be more than enough since the build itself relies on a high crit chance so it should be expected to land a lot of such strikes.
Moving on to the skill usage, the Wizard needs to be within melee range from its targets. Frost nova should be the opening strike, followed immediately by Explosive Blast and Energy Twister. The cooldown of Frost Nova should be resettled almost immediately. The AP regen should be enough to just spam the above three spells. All of them need to be used in this combination to ensure the cooldown reduction and the Arcane Power regeneration.
Survivability should also be taken into account. Since this is a Wizard Solo Inferno build, we will need a lot of resistances. Let us not forget that this class is extremely fragile. At least 800 to all resist is needed and Energy Armor should be up all the time. If by any chance monsters manage to breakout of the stunlock, Teleport should save the player from an unnecessary death. Overall, this Inferno Wizard build is fairly similar to the old one but with a few modifications. It still works and it is just as fun as the old one.
