The 5 associated runes are:

Arcane Hydra is unlockable at level 26. It conjures a Hydra that hits enemies with exploding Arcane Orbs that cause 28% damage of weapon value to the monsters found in the blast radius.

Lightning Hydra becomes available at level 33. The summoned minion causes 34% of weapon damage as Lightning.

Venom Hydra is available for all characters of level 38. It spits pools of acid that cause 18% of weapon damage each second as Poison to the enemies.

Frost Hydra can be summoned by players of level 46. It deals frost damage in the shape of a cone. It causes 31% weapon damage to oponents found within the cone.

Mammoth Hydra can be used at level 56. It breathes fire dealing 22% of weapon damage each second to enemies that step into the burning area.

Wizard Hydra Runestones

The Hydra skill has a few synergies that are conditioned by the rune used.

Conflagration can be when Hydra has no rune or when Mammoth Hydra is active.

Glass Cannon increases the damage by 15% regardless of the rune used. Paralysis can be used when Lightning Hydra is present.

Temporal Flux causes Arcane Hydra to slow enemies.

Wizard Hydra Synergies

Flux`s thoughts on the skill thanks to Diablowiki:

You could only have one Hydra active at a time, and it had a slow firing rate. Like Meteor, it was useful to stick these out there to let them ping away, hoping the damage would add up over time. They were very commonly used near the end of rounds, when one or two characters were chasing one on the other team. Most Wizards would cast Hydras in the path of the fleeing enemy, knowing they’d get in a shot or two and help finish them off.

In terms of usability, the skill is highly unlikely to be present in PVP builds. It might be used in some PVE setups but it is not a great skill to have. The damage deals is low and the Diablo 3 Wizard can only summon one Hydra at once.
